History of Slovak Hepatology Society

The Slovak Hepatological Society, (SHS), was founded in 1968  as part of the federalization of the Czech-Slovak Hepatological Society CSLS JEP  in connection with the numerous previous scientific and professional activities of its founding personalities. The professional and scientific activities of the members and leading personalities of the SHS led to the establishment and promotion of Hepatology as an independent certification  within the health care system in 1998 and provided highly specialised outpatient and inpatient health care for patients with liver diseases throughout Slovakia. Slovakia was among the first countries in the world to do so.
